1940's Econolite Traffic Signal
December of 2013, we hitched up our 5th wheel and drove to Jackson, California, for a little camping trip with a bunch of friends and while there we went antiquing. Michael found this old traffic light hidden away in an upstairs corner in an antique shop with creaky old wooden floorboards. The lady said she thought it was from the 1940's, possibly WWII era. I think this is one of those things Michael just had to have so we briefly discussed some options as to what to do with it before purchasing. The most basic question was whether we should we make a stand for it or a box to frame and hang it on the wall. We decided to do the latter and after a whole year of storing it we finally got to work on it just before Christmas.

Sewing project.
It's been awhile since I've had any free time on my hands. Today was one of those rare days!
New pajamas made out of vintage 100% cotton fabric that my Aunt Yvonne gave me years ago, probably around 1992 or so. Back then, Auntie Yvonne was cleaning out her sewing room and gave me yards and yards of this particular print fabric. I've made several things with this fabric in the past and this is the last clothing item I can make with it, just enough to make some p.j. lounging pants.
If I ever make another quilt, I still have some large enough scraps to do that.

We found this really cool vintage child's bed while out and about antiquing near Moss Landing.
It's missing the rails but that could be easy enough to remedy. Get creative, useful for wall art, too!

Aunt Yvonne's Table

This morning, we're heading to Aunt Yvonne's to deliver and tile the top of her new buffet table that Michael made. I thought of another design yesterday, the one shown above, and hoping she likes it. I really like this one much better. The dark brown vintage tiles I picked up at a yard sale in Vallejo for $1- per box. There were so many beautiful old tiles in such rare colors in the four boxes I bought. I'm going to use these for her table if she likes the colors.
I'm toting my camera along so I can show the finished design. On Thursday, I plan on driving down to grout the table.

We decided to plunk away what we in savings so we're able to get our dream classic car. I want a muscle car or an old truck and Mike really wants the 56 Bel Air, which I like as well. The Bel Air above is only 32k, not bad and the condition is sweet. My dream car is really a 68 Fastback Mustang. Dream!

I've always loved the simplicity of paint by numbers but do know there is much more tedious work involved than whipping out a painting of a landscape on canvas with my oils or acrylics. I remember my mother doing some of these types of paint by number landscapes many, many years ago.
Here is a portrait of the clown, Emmett Kelly, my mother painted when I was just two years old. It is not a paint by number, it's her original painting she did from a picture of him, that I think, was on the cover of T.V. Guide or some such thing. One day, I'd like to make a frame for it out of some old barn wood that I've whitewashed.
I can remember another favorite painting of mine that my mother did of a bunch (about five or six) white horses. They were coming out of some water and it was splashing all around them. It was beautiful. She painted it from a picture that was on the back side of a National Geographic Magazine back in the 1960's. My sister's sold it at the flea market for $30.00 and oh, our mother was mad about that one.
Another favorite painting of mine that my mom did was of a bull fighter. My Aunt Sandy has that painting. I love that painting and would love to see it in person again. Perhaps if I ever get a chance to visit my Aunt in Las Vegas I can do just that.

Small Quilt Transformation
Finally finished the little quilt I had begun all those years ago! Turned it into my sewing machine cover with just a eight little pink ribbons to tie at the sides. Now my machine will stay clean and dust free.
This small quilt was started about 1993 or 94 with some vintage and new fabrics I had on hand.
